INTRODUCTION
This exhibit, Remembering Through a Shared Experience – the Holocaust with Little Known Facts, began as a thought six decades ago; and, soon after the death of George Floyd on May 25, 2020, evolved and developed with two years of learning, to understand and identify Racism in light of how history, education, and religion influences and shapes our internalized biases and prejudices. The exhibit’s ‘little known facts’ are what the Jewish, African American, and American histories have largely omitted from their historical and oral narratives.

The number of lives lost in the Holocaust and the lessons learned is huge and widely memorialized. To ignore or omit the contributions of those who participated in ending the atrocities, contributes to the perpetuation of historical Racism. This exhibit is dedicated to identifying how internalized Racism and Antisemitism have shaped the global learning of oppressed peoples. While oral and written histories are known in global societies, they have not been publicized in the media, World War II movies, or on television. These ‘little known facts’ have been dismissed publicly.
This exhibit upholds the Jewish value of the sanctity of life. Rather than omit, these ‘little known facts,’ we lift them up with the Jewish value of B’tzelem Elohim, “we are all made in the image of God.” Sharing this knowledge with the general public may help us all begin to dismantle systems of oppression and eliminate Racism and Antisemitism.
